Dr. Norberto (Rod) Cruz, Jr.,EdD

Rod has been happily married to his wife Anita for 49 years. Rod and his wife have two grown children and three beautiful grandchildren. Both Rod and Anita are very active in community affairs by volunteering at homeless shelters, food banks, supporting a home for unwed mothers to be, and fund raising for citizens with disabilities. Rod is a member of the Knights of Columbus, having served in numerous leadership positions, all the while mentoring men to be leaders. Professionally, Rod has had a wonderful career working in several arenas. He initially started in the field of education, working as a teacher, coach and high school administrator. His successful career at a high school was followed by a long career in developing training programs for military high-tech programs. He worked as an Instructional Engineer for both TRW and UNISYS military programs. After Rod’s successful career as a Training Developer and Manager for the military programs, Rod found success as a professor in higher education. Rod’s career in higher education eventually led him to Nova Southeastern University where he was the Director of the Doctoral Program in Jacksonville, Florida. All the while that Rod was fully engaged in higher education, he was also drawn to becoming an entrepreneur. He and his wife Anita owned a sign and graphics business which allowed him to become familiar with running a small business and better understand the challenges of being the president, and the janitor, all rolled up into one person.

Rod is also licensed as an insurance agent and 25 years ago, opened an insurance agency which focused on being a one-stop shop insurance agency, offering an array of products including a “profit solutions” department for businesses. This segment of his insurance agency focused on helping business owners become more profitable. Affiliating with Mom-and-Pop Business funding was a logical progression, considering the number of businesses who continually ask about business loans.
